Manchester City dropped two points at St James’ Park as Jonjo Shelvey’s stunning late strike saw Newcastle earn a 2-2 draw with the champions.
Raheem Sterling gave the visitors the lead in the first half but Jetro Willems equalised three minutes later with a fine team goal.
Pep Guardiola must have thought his side had won it when Kevin de Bruyne found the net in the 82nd minute with a brilliant long-range effort which went in off the crossbar.
However, former Liverpool midfielder Shelvey produced an equally-stunning strike to level matters late on.
That is now 13 points dropped by Pep Guardiola’s side who are eight behind Liverpool.
