Zinedine Zidane recently revealed his affection for Kylian Mbappe and Thomas Tuchel responded by mentioning that there are times when people want something they can’t have.
Real Madrid take on Paris Saint-Germain at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu on Tuesday for the penultimate game of the Champions League group stage.
“I don’t know how much Zidane is in love with Mbappe, but he is our most important player and we are very happy that he is with us,” Tuchel told the press conference.
“Sometimes it is like that, one loves the players he can’t have, but unfortunately for [Zinedine] Zidane he is our player and [Zidane] has many players that he is also in love with in his team.
“He is French and it is normal to respond like this if they ask him about Mbappe.
“It seems normal to me that many coaches want him.
“It doesn’t bother me, because I am not very interested.”
Tuchel was asked if he is also in love with a Real Madrid player, but didn’t want to talk about someone in particular.
“I should think about whether I should say that when we are about to play against Real Madrid,” he continued
“[They are] a team that have won the Champions League many times in recent years, with an extraordinary mentality and quality with great players.”
The German tactician jokingly avoided to answer a question on whether he prefers Mbappe or Neymar as a player.
“If I answer that question I would have to go to the hotel, pick up my things, take my staff and leave,” he noted.
“I can’t say if I like one player more than another.”
